Lance Corporal Bailey Returns to Zion Home for Respite

Finally—after a long, arduous journey, Marine Lance Corporal Larry Gene Bailey II made it home, even if only for a temporary two-week break from rehab!

Greeted at Milwaukee Airport in a hero’s welcome by numerous Patriot Guards, the Wisconsin Police, Sheriff and Highway Patrol Departments for a royal escort, the entourage was later joined by the Zion Police Department, who escorted him to his Zion home where he had resided with his parents, Mary and Larry Gene Bailey I. There, an ensemble of Lake County Marine Corps League 801 and Color Guards awaited him and gave him fitting tribute.

He has since been brought to a Chicago Bulls game where he had the pleasure of being brought down on the playing field where a cheering crowd honored him. He also thrilled to witness the Bulls defeat the Charlotte Bobcats.

Things for Lance Corporal Bailey are a lot different since he last left his Zion home in April of 2011.

The Zion-Benton High School 2005 was majoring in Computer Science at Robert Morris College when he decided to join the Marine Corps, ultimately being assigned to 3-4 Lima Company Weapons Platoon to Afghanistan in April 2011. There he was severely injured by an IED, losing his left hand and both legs. He was flown to Germany for stabilization before being Medi-vacced to Bethesda, Maryland for rehab, which is expected to take at least a year.
